Get the information you need

It is important that you and your representative can get the health information you need. CMS set up rules to make it easier for you. One option is downloading a third-party app.  Apps use an API (Application Program Interface).  An API is a way for computer systems to share information. It lets an app you choose get some of your health information from Umpqua Health after you say yes. You do not have to use an app to get your information. This is an app that Umpqua Health didn’t make and has no connection to. You can get the app on your computer, smart phone, tablet, or other devices.

While it is helpful to have easy access, there are new risks to think about when your information leaves Umpqua Health. Umpqua Health follows HIPAA guidelines very closely. We are committed to keeping your information safe. We use up to date technology. We follow security procedures. If you use an app, it is up to you to decide if you are comfortable with the app’s security. We suggest you read their Notice of Privacy Practices. These are some things you might want to think about:

  1. What information will the app collect? Will it include information about things other than my health, like my location?
  2. How will it store my data? Will my name or other information that can identify me be stored with it?
  3. What will be done with the data? Will it be shared and if so, for what reason?
  4. Will my data be sold for things like advertising or research?
  5. Can I limit the app’s use or sharing of my data? How would I do that?
  6. Which security measures does the app use to protect my data?
  7. Could using the app mean sharing my family members’ information too?
  8. If the app pulls up information that is not right, how do I get it fixed?
  9. Does the app collect and answer complaints?
  10. If I want the app to stop having access to my data, what do I do?
  11. What does the app do with my data once I stop the app’s access? Will it delete the data? Do I need to do anything more than delete the app?
  12. If the app makes changes to its privacy practices, how will they let me know?
  13. Will the app tell me if there is a problem and someone has gotten access to my data?

If you do not see the answers to your questions, you might want to think about using a different app. Some apps have agreed to meet the CARIN Code of Conduct. This is a standard that you can read more about here. Third party apps also have to follow the Federal Trade Commission guidelines. You have the right to submit a complaint to them.

Your information will only be shared with the app after you agree. Once the information is shared with the app, Umpqua Health does not have any control over what happens to it.

You can get information about:

  • Your claims and explanations of benefits
  • Your coverage
  • Medications covered by your plan
  • Your pharmacy and medication information
  • In-network providers

You can see information from 2017 to now. Umpqua Health makes sure that everything is kept up to date. We have to follow the timelines set up by ORS 410-141-3591.

  • Once a decision has been made about a claim, you can see that information in the app no later than one business day later.
  • Once a provider tells us about interactions, and their payments are not based on the number of services they do, you can see that information no later than one business day later.
  • The list of drugs the plan covers will be updated no later than one business day after the effective date.
  • The list of in-network providers will be updated no later than 30 calendar days after Umpqua Health gets the information.
  • Starting 1/1/2027, you will be able to see prior authorization information (except for medications) within one business day of Umpqua Health getting the request. You can also see within one business day if there is a change in status. The available information includes status, date of approval or denial, date or circumstance under which prior authorization ends, items and services, approved, reason for denial if applicable, and any related documentation the provider submitted.
